My name is Carla Swedish and that's my picture. In addition to being a singer and musical theater performer, I have always enjoyed writing. And, ever since my 9th grade teacher sat me down and taught me how, I have been told I have a talent for writing. In recent years, I have realized that what singing and writing have in common for me is story telling.
The stories that we tell, and the stories we are told, shape our life experience. They are also one of the most powerful ways we connect with each other. I want to help everyone tell their story in the most satisfying way to them; and in so doing, leave future generations the greatest gift they could ever offer.
In 2015, I began writing cover and feature articles for two local magazines. I had the privilege of interviewing and writing about families and local business owners. These articles promoted community, were sometimes a call to action, and were always a fun and satisfying experience.
In 2017, my husband and I "right-sized". Sifting through photos, documents and articles saved by my parents and my grandparents, I yearned to hear their story in their words. I wondered whether others might be longing for the narrative to go with their facts and memorabilia; and whether I could provide the interview/family storytelling service on a larger scale.
In 2018, I added organizational storytelling to my toolbox; writing cover and feature articles for Real Producers, a magazine dedicated and distributed to the top real estate producers in Seattle.
Upon completion of the American Writers and Artists Institute (AWAI) Accelerated Copywriting course; I learned that I am inspired by story telling, not selling.
I received intensive training in Legacies, LLC | Personal, Family and Organizational Historians Affiliate Program; launching Heritage Writers on May 21, 2020.
